When Mark & Jess were visiting with us recently one of the things on our list of things to see and do, and one of the attractions included with our Seattle CityPass, was the Seattle Zoo at Woodland Park. In fact we drove over there on the Sunday, a day which happened to be not only sunny and warm but Mother's Day too. When we arrived all four parking lots were full (almost 900 spaces according to the zoo map). People were parking several blocks from the zoo and walking the rest of the way. Ironically the Zoo that day really was 'a zoo' - we gave up and drove downtown to visit the Aquarium instead. The zoo would have to wait until the next weekend when, unfortunately, Mark & Jess would be back home in Virginia.
Since we moved here last year, in addition to the zoo, we have been wanting to check out Seattle's Fremont neighborhood. The zoo is located directly north of Fremont so we combined the two into one long day out. After spending close to five hours at the zoo we found our way to Fremont's self-proclaimed "Center of the Universe", parked nearby, then discovered Dad Watson's, a brewpub & restaurant. We had a great dinner and sampled some fine brewed-on-premise ale then went out to explore Fremont, particularly the funky art for which it is justly famous. The photos in this album give only a hint of what this very interesting Seattle neighborhood is all about - we'll be back!
